I may just have to complete this back up with the new Mac Pro. It seems to work now through SMB, although my Mac Pro 2013 keeps crashing which doesn't help. An example is selecting files with Windows file explorer and copying or deleting them. Everything that involves a large number of files take orders of magnitude longer to do compared to a shared folder on a PC. Certainly once the initial backup is done, rsync will be much faster. The job is around 250GB and this has been running for a week or so and it went from 370k files to currently 190k files to be processed. ChronoSync for Mac is a welcome program for those users and syncs data quickly and securely. This seems to be working - nothing is complaining and the files are slowly written to the NAS but it is insanely slow. It offers the ability to target any device or folder visible in Finder such as a Volume, Thumb Drive, NAS, Disk Image, Server, or another Mac. Same issue on Windows 2K, XP and Windows 7. ChronoSync is a macOS application for periodic backups, bootable drive clones and folder synchronizations. There are many reports of this issue in various forum on the web. File handling on the WD NAS is extremely slower than on a shared drive on a PC. The issue really appears to be on OSX side. ![]() access to the content of the NAS folder to be impossible from the Finder itself, the NAS folder would just display as blank (but the NAS remains visible as a mounted drive in the Finder)īut there is no issue to connect through HTTP to the admin web console of the NAS. the backup software (ChronoSync) sort of freezing The connection to the NAS would just be lost which translated into: More specifically an attempt to complete a partial back up that had failed earlier due to a system crash. The issue isn't occurring during restore, it is occurring during back up. ![]() The bay OS is DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4, which I think is very recent.
